Memberships with the Southwest Association of Nigerian Physicians
If you’re a Nigerian physician practicing in the Southwest region of the United States, you are eligible to become a member of the Southwest Association of Nigerian Physicians. We know how isolating working this far away from home can be and understand that despite this, you have a strong drive to give back to your community. As a member of our association, you’ll join a group of like-minded individuals who will celebrate Nigerian culture with you, discuss innovative ways to better our medical practices, and discover new ways to give back to the community.
The Benefits of Becoming a Member
There are many benefits of becoming a member of our dedicated association. For one, you’ll be joining an amazing community filled with tremendous individuals. These individuals can provide you with friendship, which is important when moving and working in a new place, and camaraderie in the field.
As a member, you’ll also have the opportunity to become involved in the community. As physicians, we’re dedicated to giving back and helping out in any way that we can. This includes hosting scholarship galas, volunteering, and visiting with children throughout the southwest. We’ve worked with organizations such as the YWCA, the Child Crisis Center, and Jardin de Los Niños.
You’ll also be able to participate in the many educational activities we host throughout the year. These can include workshops, lectures, and meet and greets with physicians of all kinds. In 2016, we attended an event with Dr. Bennet Omalu, whose research on concussions in the NFL was made into the movie “Concussion” starring Will Smith.
When you become a member of our organization, you gain access to all this and more! Overall, our goal is to bring together like-minded individuals to form a supportive, helpful group.
Who We Are
Southwest Association of Nigerian Physicians is an association dedicated to bringing together Nigerian physicians who practice in the southwest. Our members come from all kinds of backgrounds, including pediatrics, radiology, general medicine, emergency medicine, neurology, and psychiatry. Our group of physicians come from Nigeria but have made their home in the southwest United States. Any Nigerian physician practicing in Texas and New Mexico who would like to join a thoughtful community of like-minded individuals is welcome to.
We base our activities on three types of goals: social connection, culture, and education. We host events, volunteer, come together, and learn from each other in a variety of ways. We’ve made it our goal to form social connections with each other, celebrate Nigerian culture, and educate one another and the community.
