As an internal medicine or general medicine doctor, you’ve got your hands full. With all of the disciplines and topics you have to be skilled in treating and diagnosing, it can be hard keeping up with the local medical community. The Southwest Association of Nigerian Physicians is dedicated to helping Nigerian physicians stay connected with the medical community. We understand that working a lot and being away from home can cause you to feel isolated from the medical community, which is part of the reason why the association was founded.
Joining the Association
Joining the association can help you to feel more connected with both the medical community around you and Nigerian culture, which may be difficult when you leave home to start your career somewhere else—no matter your background. When you join the association, you can connect with fellow Nigerian colleagues who relate to you in terms of career goals and cultural background and you can be more involved in the medical community. Some of the benefits of joining include more educational opportunities, the ability to attend yearly and quarterly gatherings, and the opportunity to mentor children and young professionals throughout the community all while celebrating Nigerian culture—something that can be lost when moving to a new country. The association welcomes physicians from all backgrounds, including internal or general medicine. Another great benefit is that potential patients will see you as more reputable since you’ll be held accountable once you join.
